Media filters are designed to take calcium or Iron out of the water. If you wish to remove Calcium the media the material inside the pressure vessel is Resin.If you wish to remove Iron  the media is Greensands.

The Iron or Calcium has a positive charge (+) making it  a cation and the media has a negative charge (-) making it an anion. When the water passes over the media the Iron or calcium is attracted to the opposite charge and is stuck to it removing it from the water.

Once a week the media is backwashed created a negative charge(-) and two negatives (-)(-)make a neutral releasing the Calcium or Iron from the resin or greensands to be backwashed out of the pressure vessel. A bit like the spin cycle on your washing machine.

Now the media is ready to perform its duty for another week.

Media filters are excellent at protecting your household pipes from the effects of calcium sulphate and the like, thus adding many years to your household water pipes but also to your  hot water heater, washing machine, dishwasher, kettle, taps  shower in fact anything that uses water in your house.

Our media filters are usually fitted with a pre filter to protect the control head and often a 20 inch carbon post filter to polish the water.
